This Saturday Marlow ladies 1s made the short trip to a brand new pitch at Wycombe High school to take part in the Croxson Cup. A minute's silence was held and black armbands were worn in memory of both Hils Farrar-Hockley from Marlow HC and Nick Philips from Wycombe HC.
The game started evenly with both teams getting used to the new pitch. Jane Smith opened the scoreline from Marlow after 8 minutes. Alex Teasdale thought she had scored in the 22nd minute but her goal was disallowed after it was found to have hit her body. Smithy completed her hat trick in the first half with a further two goals, one of which was a reverse stick rocket. Although the scoreline was 3-0 at half time, the game was more even than it suggested with the Marlow girls not playing to their full potential with the exception of Jemima Copeman whose speed was electric from start to finish.
The second half was a better Marlow performance. There were numerous chances for Marlow in the secondhalf. Alex Teasdale did get her goal in the 48th minute and also had a great chance later on which resulted in a magnificent air shot. Amelia Barclay also added to the scorer list with her first goal of the season. The ladies did Hils proud and added to the overall goals culminating in a Marlow win and retention of the Croxson Cup. The first league game is next week, an 11.45pb at Pound lane vs Surbiton 3s.
