At Henley's request this game was moved from Pound Lane to Jubilee Park to accommodate a Henley player's wedding.
The hosts must have been laughing when they walked off, with all 3 points, to get in their cars and head to the reception!
Henley were nothing special but stuck to a realistic & simple game plan that worked to great effect.
While Marlow passed the ball well, their outcomes were minimal and after the 15 min mark Henley started to dominate with a number of circle penetrations.
On 18 mins they got lucky as a ball rose high in the D and in the scrap to clear it Sam North managed to put it in his own net. Ashton received yellow for a professional break down although during this time, Marlow enjoyed one of the best possession phases of the game.
A similar set of ricochets on 30 mins, seemed to draw the second OG of the game and suddenly Henley were 2 to the good at the break.
In the second period Henley sat back and Marlow played some outstanding passing hockey between the two circles, but the hosts were organised, professional and calm. Marlow on the other hand simply got frustrated and heads began to drop as doubt crept in.
North was binned for an over physical challenge, but as Marlow's coach was distracted and missed it, no one reorganised the back 4, leaving a gaping hole at left half.
As a result, Henley bagged their 3rd on the counter with 15 mins to go. From here on in Marlow pretty much went into melt down, attributing their own short falls to umpiring errors.
When the 'Reds' finally got a corner just after 60 mins, they passed the ball straight to a yellow shirt and Henley went back to front in 3 passes and plonked the ball in the goal. Marlow could learn a lot from that model!
With 6 mins left Captain Land drew a foul and Pete Harding dispatched the stroke, but it was all too little too late.
Turner saw his second yellow in 2 weeks for an outburst on 68 mins. The Umpire Panel must be putting in some really negative reports of MHC behaviour and the players need to sharpen up their discipline and realise they can't get away with their petulant attitude, if they want to be winners.
