Looking at the big picture, with 20 games to go, 3 points in the bag and an even goal difference, Marlow can take plenty of positives from their start to the 2014-15 campaign.
This squad is mentally strong and after losing 18-0 to Surbiton, 7-3 is nothing to worry about.
The visitors started brightly and seriously dominated the game for the first 15 minutes. It took 6 mins for Jack Turner to open the scoring & hosts Trojans must have been wondering what was on the cards.
On 17 mins Trojans pulled one back but Marlow kept playing the better hockey. Minutes before the break a lack of marking discipline in the back four let Trojans extend their lead to 2-1.
In the second period Marlow stuttered and a lack of desire for the ball in midfield, combined with a tendency to bypass them, meant Trojans were picking up better possession stats and their counter attacking game started to pay off.
5 mins into the second period and the game was effectively dead, as Trojans bagged 2 goals in 3 mins to go 4-1 up and then Marlow threw the game plan out the window and went chasing.
A bizarre last 10 mins saw another 5 goals, but while Marlow's attacking game was good, defensive structure was appalling. Turner & Hooker converted well drilled corners but it was too little too late and Trojans came away 7-3 winners.
