Top of the table clash saw Marlow avenge the narrow 1-2 defeat the last time these two teams met with a close but well deserved 3-2 win over Oxford.

Marlow started well dominating the possession but Oxford then settled into the game which became end to end, exciting hockey for the many watching spectators to enjoy.
A quick break out of defence gave possession to the mid field where Sadie played a great ball out to Aggie who drove down the right wing and put in a superb cross for Emma in the perfect place to slot home the ball at the far post. This move was repeated two minutes later with again Aggie, player of the match, driving down the right wing putting in another excellent cross which was put away at the far post by Emma now on for a possible hat trick. Play continued as before with Marlow almost scoring another from a quick hit out from defence which put the ball near the Oxfords D but as several players tried to score the ball was unfortunately kicked in! Marlow’s play then became a bit scrappy towards the end of the half when Oxford won a corner from which they scored a good goal with a flick shot going high over the defence and Mac in goal. So half time came to an end with Marlow 2-1 up.

Second half was again quite even but the defence didn’t let the Oxford players get into our circle often and with good movement from the midfield and forwards another goal was scored this time by Jo Rees. Who after nice play again down the right side the ball was passed back to Jo at the top of the D who’s great strike with slight deflection from a defender went straight into the goal. Jo did scored another but the whistle had blown moments before therefore was disallowed by Emma Horan who did a great job umpiring her very first ladies match.
As the half progressed Marlow started to dominant the game Emma trying hard for her hattrick goal but Oxford never gave up and were always dangerous on the break. They won a corner towards the end of the match after an error from a defensive hit out and similar to their first goal the ball was lifted over the defence into the net. Marlow held firm, to end the game deserved 3-2 winners to maintain their position at the top of the table.
A very good team effort with all 15 players giving all to keep the promotion bid on track.
