Marlow Ladies 6th 1 - Wycombe Ladies 6th 0
What a fabulous way to return after the summer break. Sunshine, teamwork, fun and a great result. Best summed up at half time by Chris’s motivational team talk “there are only two things missing: a goal that will settle you all down; and a second goal as you will start flying.” We couldn’t quite manage the second goal in the tiring heat, but the much deserved first goal came after immense pressure, scored by Krishni.
We were in control throughout most of the match, although with experienced players on the opposition it was not all one-sided. At the defensive end we were equally strong, urged on by Mac making sure we were covering the players and in the right space, and we did not concede a corner, (short or long), throughout the entire game.
There could have been many more goals had Wycombe not defended well and it was a great learning experience to focus on what we need to do in the “ugly zone”. We appreciated Anna in the mid-field, bringing her experience (and receiving several Player of the Match nominations for it).
As always, the youngsters (Krishni, Helena, Aggie, Amelia) brought speed and agility. It was great also to welcome Rachel to her first full game - and so close to scoring. Player of the Match was Krishni, but could have been several others. Chris continues to be a star coach. Bring on the start of the league!
