Marlow Girls took on Maidenhead in the 1st round of the U14B plate - the first highlight was the driving rain stopped just in time for the warm up.

In an even first half Marlow were disciplined in defence, worked hard in midfield and created good chances by getting behind the Maidenhead backline. Megan Bagehot scored after 10 minutes, finishing after some strong running by Evie Matthews and Rosa Cook down the left led to a series of Marlow attacks. Maidenhead bounced back and equalised after 15 minutes, committing players forward and creating a 1 on 1 chance at close range.

The second half more end to end, Marlow had enough possession and time in the circle to deserve an equaliser, at the other end Maidenhead spent a sustained period in the Marlow half and made it difficult for the defence to clear the ball. Despite some good saves and last ditch tackles, eventually the pressure resulted in a goal, with 10 minutes left to play.

The final 10 minutes was high drama with both sides creating chances. Sadly for Marlow today was not be be their day. The girls should be proud of the effort put in right to the end, 100% commitment throughout and some excellent quality hockey.
