6-0 victory for Marlow U16 Girls!

Chris Kilminster13 Sep 2015 - 15:20

Wi th only two training sessions before our first match, the u16 girls set out to get our first win of the season against Gerrards Cross.

With an intense and structured warm up, lead by our new coach Steph Elliot, we were in the right mind set for the game ahead.
The game started well, we had the majority of the possession and looked very positive going forward. Jess MB and Josephine C used their pace to drive up the pitch into the D where we had many opportunities to score but unfortunately couldn't put the ball in the goal.
On the occasional break from the opposition we were quick to get back. Thanks to Alex Lane's communication from the back every player was marked which made it very difficult for the other team to enter the D. Alys wasn't kept too busy in goal apart from being faced in a one on one situation where she calmly beat the attacker and kicked the ball away. Later on in the half Alex sent a perfect ball into the D where Sophie Willis had a shot which was deflected in by Josephine Cadinouche scoring on her debut.

In the second half we set off hard again. In the first few minutes we scored our second goal! Sophie used her strength to drive to the baseline and crossed the ball in which deflected off a defenders stick into the goal.
Another goal followed a few minutes later thanks to some excellent skills from Anya beating 3 defenders and passing it to Katie who smashed it into the bottom left corner.
By now we were in control of the game, with the opposition rarely making it through our 25.
Unfortunately many of the umpires decisions didn't go our way which meant we were getting very frustrated. However we used this frustration to make us play even better.
During the last 15 minutes our midfield continued to drive up the pitch and pass it on to the forwards who were making some excellent leads. This lead to another goal which was scored by Amy Dring.
Jess MB scored the 5th goal, after eliminating four players, she shot perfectly from the top of the D into the right hand corner.
With minutes to go we still wanted more. We had many chances which unfortunately didn't go in. Just before the whistle blew Katie won us a short corner.
With everyone round the D we knew we could get one more. With a fast and accurate injection from laneo and and a precise stop from Jess, Katie powerfully and accurately hit the ball in to right corner of the goal which meant we won the game 6-0!

As a team we have a lot of potential. Practicing going forward and scoring will improve out game a lot. With hard work and commitment, this season could be very successful.
Congratulations to Katie Saunders for being voted Player of the Match!
