The Boys U12 side completed a very comfortable 5-0 victory over South Berks this morning. Given that this was most of the boys first ever full 11 a-side game this was a terrific performance full of skill and much promise.
In a game divided into four quarters the boys went into the first break already 2-0 up through a first goal from George Evans, this followed a Sam Rollett break down the left , the ball broke to George who thrashed it high into the net. Sam then followed this up with a sumptuous tomahawk , again high into the net. South Berks were clearly shell-shocked at this stage and Ethan popped up to push home our advantage with a well struck goal from the left towards the end of the first half.
As Marlow made many rolling changes the boys found it more difficult to find a pattern of play and we tried to dribble through the centre to little effect. We finally found the net again twice in the final period, both through well taken goals from George Atkins, Leaving the final score as 5-0
All the boys played very well, Alfie, Finlay P, Simon, Will, Henry and Fin D were strong at the back leaving Ed very little to do in goal, but when he was needed he did really well to keep out 2 or 3 efforts late on. Freddie, Sam G and Jack all supported well in midfield and up from Max and Will P gave the opposition plenty to think about even if they didn't score.
This was undoubtedly a terrific win and a promising start from a talented squad. There are learning points and we will face a stiffer challenge in the matches against Reading later in the season.
Many thanks to Henry for umpiring and all the parents for their support.
