Report from coach Allie P:
The U12 boys entered a team for the Oxford Rovers tournament and displayed a feisty ability to take on anyone in their way.
The first three games versus Eastcote B, Wallingford B and Oxford B were won without conceding a goal.
Then there were three matches on the trot. Again, winning the first two 2 to nil vs Oxford B and Bicester.
Tom King in goal easily denied any success for the opposition. Our backs passed into spaces and marked tightly. Our mids and forwards worked their socks off and the goals were evenly distributed.
We knew our last and sixth game in the round robin would be the hardest. Reading. It was closely contested with close man to man marking and dynamic passing. Then Reading scored a beauty to make the final score 0-1.
Again without a break it was into the semis, playing the eventual winners, touring Irish side Banbridge As. They were tidy players with tight drills. A respectable 0-3 loss. However tired the boys were, they still managed find the energy to give Banbridge a run for their money with much of the play up our end.
Up against Reading again for the 3rd /4th playoff. Sadly our corners didn't succeed and tiredness was taking over. We lost 0-2. Each game was tightly fought and we had no weak players and no dominators. The boys showed true teamwork and enthusiasm throughout.
Thank you to all the team: Tom King (GK), George Atkins, Sam Gillen, Jacob Gunn, James Ley, Ollie Neal, Leo Pennant, Alex Quinn, Seb Rogers and Joel Smith. A big thank you also to Caroline Smith for getting us all to the right place at the right time, to Jerry Smith for leadership and support, to Jim King management support and to the many other parents cheering the boys on to fourth place out of 14.
The weather this year was great and the tiered stands for spectators to watch from were a welcome addition.
The organisers yet again did a spectacular job, all helped by the beautiful surroundings too.
