Oxford ‘ALL Stars’ Hawkes come to Marlow but only managed to con a point

With Oxford fielding a slightly dubious team for the five’s league, we had our work cut out. Troy commenting before the game about a wonderful striker who constantly scored, both Phil and myself were very proud of the compliment until we found out he was talking about the opposition’s centre forward. Unfortunately Troy’s comments about being injured so not having to face him, sadly proved correct when an injury after 15 minutes saw the end of Troy’s game.

Also unfortunately that the said player had already walked into the area and set up his son to score the opening goal. However, ‘speedy phil’ decided to do what he does, and running down the right wing, cut inside and drew us level.

Thank god for VAR as Troy’s ‘wonderful’ striker hit a glorious strike from the edge of the area into the far corner, fortunately our ‘fantastic’ referees deemed it was outside of the D!!!

All Star Hawks continued to dominate and got their second goal as expected.

Deon decided at half time to go on the war path and felt 5-4 was the right score line. Mark ‘Braveheart’ Fergo lead the war cry as we entered the field for the second half.

Larry ‘the Lionheart’ put in a superb second-half display with more kicks than Jonny Wilkinson making sure we wouldn’t concede another goal. With the team now determined to push forward, we drove forward as a unit pushing Hawkes back. Chances were being created, one with Ed sliding in from 25 yards to get on the end of the cross, unfortunately he left his stick 25 yards behind.

With great overload on the right, with Ian, Ed, Phil, and Andy constantly pushing them back and creating opportunities, surely a goal would come. After a few missed attempts to get on the end of these crosses, Doug timed it to perfection, flying in, taking the ball in full flow, moving to the left and then just as he was about to shoot for glory, decided to ‘deliberately’ miss hit the ball to fool everyone, with it gently rolling to Frosty, who passed it into the far corner.

Marlow continued to pile on the pressure in the closing minutes but couldn’t get that elusive winner.

The ‘All stars’ left with just the point, while Marlow had the satisfaction of putting in a great effort.
