From roving reporter, Tim Frost
Marlow delivered a great performance with 10 goals to continue the push for promotion.
Kids please bear in mind, the old adage, of try and try again, is not always true!
But primarily for Mark’s benefit, lets cover ‘opportunity knocks and goes begging’. Lilley again having a driving influence on the game, spraying balls all over the place, some even to his colleagues and with about 15 minutes to go, won a free hit on the half way line, Lilley views his options and with eagle like precision, strikes a ball forward, everyone looks on in disbelieve, thinking he has knocked it straight out, however Frosty, returning from the bar after having had a quick half, is free in the D with only the keeper as company, an inspired pass, demonstrating the vision he has. Unfortunately the fairy tale end there as Frosty fails to deliver, wishing he had ordered a pint instead and missed the whole episode.
A great start was taken by Lilley after about 2 minutes to set the tone of the game, with a strong finish, Phil then added a second as Marlow got into their stride and Phil finished a good move. Lilley, having again driven into the D with gusto, lines up to shoot, looked up to see Frosty free and rolled the ball across the D for a simple tap in. There was just enough time in the half for Tom Brockwell to delight his family of supporters with a sweet finish from a short corner.
The second half started in a similar manner, Lilley getting another goal with a fine move. As the short corners continued, first Tom B got his second from a rebound, and Ian licked his lips and lifted a rebound off the keeper into the roof of the net.
Now back to the ‘try and try again, take one. For Lilley this was just rewards for his efforts as for the third corner in a row, he remembered the quality he processed and performed an excellent drag into the top corner, getting his first hat trick for the club. On the occasions MK’s did attack, the defence and the ‘flying Fin’ were up to the task and deserved the clean sheet they gained.
As the game continued to open up, Frosty hit a cross shot, Henry was on hand to have a touch to make sure from a foot, however, Phil, with lighting speed decided to ‘make sure’ and got a final touch from at least half an inch. You reap what you sow!
As the whole team continued to play good hockey with everyone contributing, Henry broke free down the right and knocked an excellent cross for Frosty to get his second and complete the scoring. Back to the try and try again, take two. With the time ticking on, in the last 5 minutes Marlow’s continued pressure resulted in about 4 short corners, Frosty looking for the hat trick, took control, and proved that sometimes it is best to give up, no goal.
Good game, lived up to expectations and continued the push for promotion. Ian left skipping down the road basking in a great win, Lilly went into hiding so as not to buy the jug as per the etiquette, those estate agents! And Henry was still in disbelieve that Phil was so quick.
