Marlow travelled to Wallingford for the first game of the season in their new league. After 6 promotions in a row, and a large turnaround in playing/coaching personnel, Marlow could have expected an uphill task.
The first half was characterised by an end to end relay almost, with no threat to either goal however. Marlow’s press was were organised, with Man of the match Ben Pruden especially causing a nuisance for their right half leading to constant break always for Marlow but never managed to translate the opportunities into goals. At the other end, keeper Ross Bone kept his defence well marshalled, making sure the Marlow goal was never unduly threatened.
The second half brought much the same. The times Marlow were on the back foot, leonine defending ensured the score remained at 0-0. Ultimately both sides were grateful to their keepers for keeping it that way. It was a satisfying draw for Marlow, which was a fair result in the end.
