Marlow Hockey Club Report 5th/6th February

Marlow First men's team had a surprisingly large win against local rivals Amersham and Chalfont despite going behind in the first minute. They fought back straight away and leading scorer Callum White levelled the score. After that, they took the visitors apart with their build-up play and by halftime the score was 6-1. The second half was much the same but Marlow had more near-misses than goals to reward them and Amersham pulled one back. The final score was 9-2 for Marlow and the goalscorers were:- Callum White 4, Lewis Goodman 2 and Matt Ashton, Chris Sewell and Charley Hunter one each.

The men's 2s played Wycombe M1 at Bisham Abbey. Wycombe made a strong start and were rewarded with the opening goal. Wycombe had other chances but could not find the net. Marlow began to find their feet as the half progressed. A Mav Girn penalty corner flick was charged down by the Wycombe defence. Chances for either side were limited though. The second half saw Marlow move into the ascendancy, they were solid at the back and picked off any Wycombe attacks. But some resolute defending from Wycombe kept the home side ahead. A yellow card for dangerous play gave Marlow an opportunity. But Wycombe demonstrated why they are second in the table, retaining possession for much of the period with 10 men. Final score 1-0 to Wycombe M1.
