Marlow Hockey Club Report 2nd/3rd April

Men's results.
The men's 1st team wrapped up the season by beating Fareham 2s 6-1 at Pound Lane . So, they kept their unbeaten record for the season which ended:- Played 22, Won 17, Drawn 5, Lost 0, Goals for 95, against 24. The opening goal was by Sam Burroughs with an emphatic conversion of a penalty corner. Callum White added another before half time but in the second half, Marlow upped the tempo and were camped in the opposition half for most of the time. Callum scored two more bringing his total for the season to 37 and further goals came from Lewis Goodman and Toby Hill. The Marlow pressure left them vulnerable to a breakaway and the visitors bagged a consolation goal.

Other results:- 2nds was cancelled and they were awarded a 5-0 walkover,
3rds lost 4-2 to Abingdon 1s who are the unbeaten league champions,
4s last 4-0 to Wooton Wanderers 1s,
5s lost away to Yateley2 3-0
6s lost 2-0 away to Henley5, and
7s lost 3-1 to Henley Development.

Ladies' results.
The 1st team played Reading 2s to Pound Lane in the final match of the season. Reading already knew that they would be promoted and Marlow were guaranteed third. Reading started strongly with their forwards really putting pressure on the Marlow defence. The reds held firm and played some great attacking hockey on the counterattack. It was end-to-end play with both teams not wanting to concede. Zoe Clarke had a cracking game in the midfield, putting pressure on Reading and spoiling their possession. Half time saw the score remain 0-0. The second half was as hotly contested as the first with both sides using their youth and speed to create attacking chances but neither team could find the back of the net. Marlow keeper Dibs Haisman made some fantastic saves to deny Reading the glory of a final three points of the season.
The 2nd team drew away with Leighton Buzzard 1s 1-1 but were already sure to finish top of their league. They had only lost 2 matches and gained promotion to South Central Premier League 2

3rd team beat Wallingford2 4-1,
4ths drew 3-3 away to Bicester 1,
5ths lost 4-0 to Wycombe3,
6ths beat Yateley3 1-0 away and finished top of their league,
7s beat Yateley4 4-2.
