Marlow Hockey Club Report 2nd March 2024

Men's Results
Marlow's 1st team were at home to Staines and going by recent form looked likely to struggle against their 3rd placed opponents. It turned out to be an even and well-contested contest. In the first half, Staines were on top in the early exchanges and went ahead on 15 minutes with an amazing lob, Marlow came more into it without creating many chances but following a goalmouth scramble were awarded a penalty stroke which captain Sam North converted just on halftime.
In the second half, Marlow played with much more intent all over the pitch but conceded a goal and had to work hard to profit from all the effort they put in. Although they were attacking hard the Staines defence was difficult to beat but eventually Oliver Green was in the right place to level the scores from a narrow angle..
Staines were still dangerous when they broke away and forced a succession of penalty corners one ending in the award of a penalty stroke which Ivor Crampsie in the Marlow goal saved brilliantly.
The game continued end to end with both sides striving for the winner. Josh Morgans had been outstanding throughout and it was fitting that from one of his many runs from midfield the ball came back to him and he made no mistake in making the final score 3-2. to Marlow and a reward for a great team performance
The 2nd team were away to to Oxford Hawks 3. The game started at a fast pace, and Marlow quickly saw themselves 1 down after a nice passing move by Hawks and a smart finish. However, Marlow quickly responded with goals by returning Captain Dan Field and a debut goal for Mal Allick. Marlow continued to dominate possession and created numerous chances but couldn’t find a way past the Hawks goalkeeper. Hawks managed to find an equaliser just before halftime.. The second half continued with Marlow dictating play and Raj a mere spectator in goal. Marlow’s strikers continued to find the Hawks goalkeeper blocking their way and were unable to find the final touch. When it was looking like a draw was inevitable Marlow won possession high up the pitch and Seb Hillebrand drove along the baseline and pulled the ball back for Dan Field to claim his second of the game and a 3-2 win for Marlow.
