Marlow Hockey Club Report 29th/30th January

It was a disappointing weekend for both the Marlow men's and ladies 1st teams but for different reasons. The men because their game was called off by the opposition who they had beaten 8-0 early in the season and the ladies in losing 4-3 to their nearest league rivals Oxford Hawks2. The men now have two matches to make up later in the season.

Men's results

Marlow 2s hosted Sonning 2s at Pound Lane. The visitors arrived with a lot of energy, and took an early lead. Marlow created opportunities but could not find the net. The score was 0-1 to Sonning at halftime but Marlow felt more than in the game. However, two second-half goals left Marlow with a tough pathway to points, but they never gave up and continued to create chances. Despite a host of short corners, a goal was long in coming. With 15 mins to play they were finally on the scoresheet, with a well-taken penalty stroke from Lewis Goodman. More chances followed but the Sonning keeper was in fine fettle. Final score 1-3.

3s lost 2-0 away to Oxford2,
4s lost 1-0 to Amersham & Chalfont
5s lost 4-3 away to Bicester2
6s drew 1-1 away to Windsor3
7s lost 4-2 away to Eastcote7

Ladies results:-

Oxford Hawks 2s started strongly and scored their first goal in under 5 minutes but Marlow were quick to reply when Zoe Clarke equalised two minutes later. Both teams had lots more chances but Hawks continued to pressure the Marlow defence and were rewarded with two further goals in the first half leaving the halftime score 3-1.Marlow came out fighting in the second half and after three minutes player-coach Jane Smith’s scored from a penalty corner. Three minutes later Kesia Richardson’s struck at another penalty corner to level the score at 3-3. Both teams continued to try to find the winner and Oxford Hawks eventually succeeded
Both teams worked incredibly hard and Marlow were proud of the way they fought to the final whistle.
The ladies 2nd team beat their opponents from Oxford Hawks3 4-0

3rd team drew with Sonning2 1-1 away,
4s drew 0-0 with Oxford Univeristy3,
5ths beat Newbury and Thatcham3 3-1 away,
6ths beat Wycombe5 2-1,
7s beat Wycombe6 3-0 away
