Marlow Hockey Club Report 26th/27th March

Men's results
The men's first team ensured that they would win the league at Reading midweek and might have hoped for an easier match on Saturday when they were away to Witney. Almost from the start Marlow were put out of their stride by an injury to Freddie Pollard and Witney much improved since the match earlier in the season, went two goals up very quickly. Marlow regrouped and held their own until halftime. After that Marlow came more into it and fought back hard to score in the 41st minute through Charley Hunter. The game was evenly poised and Callum White bagged his 34th goal of the season to level the scores. It maintained their unbeaten record for the season and hope that will continue next week when they entertain visitors from Fareham starting at Pound Lane at 4.30 pm.
Marlow 2nd XI hosted Berkhamstead 1st XI in their final home game of the season. Despite a narrow midweek defeat away at Hawks, the reds came into the game in good form, having won three of their last four. And this confidence showed as Marlow strode into a two-goal lead, courtesy of leading scorer Dan Field. Both goals came from flowing passing moves from front to back. A third was disallowed to leave the score 2-0 at halftime. The visitors hit back with a breakaway goal but Ant Williamson quickly restored Marlow’s two-goal cushion. Berkhamstead scored another but Dan Field continued his blistering form, scoring two more goals to take his season tally to 16. Final score 5-2 to Marlow.

Sonning replied 10 minutes later with a rocket of a strike from a penalty corner that keeper Dibs Haisman could do nothing about. Three minutes later, Marlow were awarded a penalty stroke which Player of the match Kiera Foster coolly dispatched. 4 minutes later Foster put an incredible pass towards the back post which Emily Miskell slid in to put the ball past the Sonning keeper. Marlow kept the pressure up with Kiera Foster once again feeding a perfect delivery in for Kerri Smith to score her second of the day. Sonning replied shortly before half time to leave the score at 4-2.

Sonning pressed hard in the second half and had more chances but Nat Riches and her defence stood strong to not concede more goals. Some quick passing and speed enabled Jane Smith to score a fifth for Marlow in the dying seconds of the game to leave the final score at 5-2. Thier goal scoers were
