Marlow Hockey Club Coaching

Marlow Hockey Club is based in the small town of Marlow on the edge of the Chiltern Hills and river Thames. It is a friendly happy club with its own clubhouse and pitch on the same site. We pride ourselves as a real community club, having strong links with local primary and secondary schools. Our two state secondary schools Sir William Borlase’s and Great Marlow schools, both have strong hockey programmes, feed our junior section. Our values are based around friendship, support and kindness. We have more than 600 juniors ranging from U8 to U18 training at various times during the week and at weekends. We pride ourselves with having one of the best junior set ups in the country for developing young players and integrating them though our senior teams. We have a coaching link with Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School, this enables us to provide additional coaching opportunities for aspiring and experienced coaches. Both our women’s and men’s 1st teams play in South Central Premier Division 1. It is likely that the women will be promoted into the National League in season 2024/25. The men would like to push for promotion to the National League in the coming seasons. We are lucky that our location allows us to work with athletes in the centralised programme who can offer additional coaching support and coach education, keep our programme current and up to date. We are recruiting due to current coach relocation.

Junior Coaches
We pride ourselves as having one of the largest and most successful junior sections outside the premier league clubs. We work closely with Sir William Borlase GS to enable us both to provide high quality coaching and in turn the coaches enough coaching hours to fill full-time roles.
Our programme includes primary school outreach sessions as well as a planned primary school league and after school club sessions for primary schools if they request it. We also run a joint holiday camp programme during the school holidays. Sir William Borlase run sessions on the Pound Lane pitch every day after school. Coaches are always needed for the different age groups each evening. Marlow Hockey Club sessions then follow on from 6pm where we run junior sessions from 6-7.30pm and adult sessions 7.30-9.15/30pm.

The club would like to develop the Flyerz Hockey sessions we have been running during the last season. There is scope for this to develop into outreach work with special schools and with some admin hours around this. We would love to develop a walking hockey session during the day as well as building on our Back to Hockey daytime sessions we have been running this year.

As a result of all this hockey activity we are looking for 3 hockey coaches to work approximately 30 hours per week each across both club and school. We have a range of ages and abilities who will need coaching which should make for an interesting job for anyone who is looking to make coaching their career. The key squads are Saturday morning minis (U7-U9), U10 boys and girls, girls and boys U12s, and boys U18s. The 3 roles will combine a variety of coaching opportunities, we are keen to develop roles that fit coaches who would like to join Marlow.

Head of Boy’s Hockey
In addition to the coaching roles, we have a vacancy for head of boys hockey. This role has been in conjunction with some of the boys lead coaching sessions and carries an additional responsibility salary. The role is responsible for ensuring the boys make a smooth transition through junior hockey and on into adult hockey. The role also ensures that coaches are supported in their development and mentors the less inexperienced coaches.

We are a generous club, keen to support our coaches, therefore remuneration is negotiable and will be based on experience.
