Marlow started the game in the best way possible, breaking down the Tulse Hill defence, Lana Wallis earned the home side a penalty corner which debutant Zoe Clarke scored with a hard sweep past the opposition keeper. Marlow kept pressing the London club and Kiera Foster forced the Tulse Hill keeper into an outstanding double save to keep the score at 1-0.
Tulse Hill started to ease into their game in the second half and scored to equalise. Marlow stepped up again and had countless attacks and penalty corners but the Tulse Hill keeper continued to make save after save to deny the reds a second goal. Marlow finally managed to find the back of the net through a penalty corner conversion by Nat Riches in which the keeper stood no chance! Tulse Hill didn't let Marlow lead for long and equalised after some scrappy defending was Marlow's undoing. Marlow keeper Dibs Haisman didn't let this bring her down as she kept her concentration and made some amazing saves (including one with her head) to keep the visitors from taking three points.
All in all this was a positive start for Marlow against a strong team who finished above them in the league table last year but players couldn't help feeling that the three points could have been taken if it weren't for the Tulse Hill keeper having an outstanding game. Many of the Marlow juniors played out of their skin and proved that they can compete in South Div 1. A special mention should be made to Tilly Crampsie who ran an enormous amount and turned the ball over time and time again for Marlow.
