Match Report weekly roundup Weekend 3rd/4th October

Men's results:-

The Mens 1st team made it two wins from two in a scrappy encounter that was not a game for the purists. Eastcote disrupted Marlow’s flow very well, without ever really creating anything of note themselves in the first period. Just after the break Eastcote scored from a corner but conceding seemed to turn Marlow on and suddenly they found their form and a creative edge. New signing, former Banbury player, Callum White, converted two corners in a five minute purple patch on 45 & 50mins and then, despite the odd Eastcote counter attack, the three points never really looked in doubt.

Mens 2s drew 4-4 at home with Harrow1 Goals by Adam Boyden (2), Dan Field, and Joe Hazelhurst in their first home game of the season. Hopes were raised as Marlow took the lead inside a minute of the start. But as much as Marlow created opportunities going forward, they turned the ball over too frequently, allowing Harrow chances to counter attack. And this set the tone for the afternoon; one side taking the lead only to be pegged back by the other. Good for spectators but frustrating for the Marlow coaching team. In the event, it was the conceding of short corners which cost Marlow - the visitors scoring three from three. But Marlow always looked capable of more, and with five minutes to play Field converted via a short corner strike. It was the former national league goalkeeper’s, now converted to striker, 50th league goal. Despite momentum and further corners in the final minutes, the home side could not seal the points.

Ladies results:-
It was an early start for Marlow Ladies 1sts as they travelled to Eastbourne however they were rewarded with sunshine instead of the torrential rain they left behind at home.Marlow started slowly and were forced to defend for the first ten minutes as passes were not connecting. Marlow started to pick up after ten minutes and showed their pace and skill. Fifteen minutes in they earned a penalty corner which Grace Kisbee scored on the post to give Marlow the lead. Marlow continued to pressure the Eastbourne keeper who made some fantastic double saves to deny Marlow attacker Keira Foster the lead. Marlow continued to pressure the Eastbourne keeper who made some fantastic double saves to deny Marlow attacker Keira Foster. Eastbourne were also quick on the break but some very calm defence from Jo Cox saw that the home side were unable to score. Some great attacking play by Jen Martin culminated in many more penalty corners for the visitors but Marlow were unable to convert any of their chances.
The second half saw Eastbourne fight harder with more defending for Dibs Haisman and her team of defenders to organise. Some fantastic goal line saves from Nat Riches enabled Marlow to keep a clean sheet. There were additional chances for Marlow with the Eastbourne keeper saving a rocket from Jen Martin at a penalty corner and saving a penalty stroke!
Marlow were happy to take the three points and were proud of the way they finished the game despite only having 9 players on the pitch due to cards in the last 10 minutes of the game!
