Match Report weekly roundup Weekend 26th/27th September

Most of the club's club's teams were in League action for the first time on Saturday and the Men's 1st team led the way with a decisive win at home to S.Berks who were promoted last season. Marlow had had good preparation in their preseason matches against higher league opponents by winning all three, and soon got into their stride with a really well worked goal by Matt Bilsland. Another goal soon followed from Sam Burroughs from a short corner. At that point it looked as though Marlow would run up a large score but South Berks, played deep and defended well and Marlow scored no more goals in the half despite the amount of possession they had.The second half however reflected the balance of play more with Marlow pressing higher up the pitch and playing very fluently. Mark Lowden in his first league game for Marlow scored the third goal and after that goals came regularly; another for Lowden and others by Luke Stone (2) and Lewis Goodman, The final score 7-0 was a good confidence booster for the league programme to come.

The 2nd XI opened the season away at Staines 2nd XI. The visitors made a bright start, creating a series of short corners. But the Staines defence held strong, with two goal line clearances. Marlow took the lead through Jacob Gunn, but were pegged back after a penalty corner at the other end. After responding quickly with another goal by Gunn, Marlow had most of the possession but allowed the home side an equaliser just before half time. The second half was a more even, albeit tetchy, affair which saw a number of cards issued by the umpire. Staines pressed harder but were continually thwarted by Will Stubbings, who was making his league debut for Marlow. The reds were still dangerous on the attack and with 5 mins on the clock, conjured up a winner from Leo Pennant.

Other men's results:-
Marlow 3 beat S, Berks 3 by 3-0 at home,
The 4ths won 5-1 away against OMT 3,
Marlow 5 drew at home with Ashford 3 1-1 and
Marlow 6 beat Eastcote 6 2-1 away

Ladies results:-

The Ladies 1s were expecting a tough game against Tulse Hill and Dulwich and had prepared accordingly by working on corners because it would likely be the key to success. Zoe Clarkes goal was from a breakdown at a corner so the time was well spent at training. Zoe and Grace Kisbee both students at Great Marlow School played their first game at this level, Grace having first picked up a stick in year 7! The team worked incredibly hard and went ahead twice in the game but Tulse Hill are an experienced team at this level and so any lead would always be contested. The end result a 2-2 draw was a fair result to an end to end match. The second goal was scored by Natalie Riches.
The second team won 2-0 away over Amersham and Chalfont 2s.
The other ladies results were the 3s lost 4-2 to Henley 2s away,
4s drew 3-3 at Oxford 4s and the
5s drew 2-2 with Phoenix & Ranelagh 2s at home.
