Match Report weekly roundup Weekend 17th/18th October

MENS
The Men's first team travelled to Newbury & Thatcham looking for some redemption for last year's 5-1 defeat that derailed their promotion hopes.
The initial 20 minutes were scrappy as the hosts pressed with intensity and purpose but Marlow were calm and stuck to their principles. It paid off as their neat passing philosophy led to three goals in 6 minutes (Chris Sewell, Calum White & Josh Morgans). Josh is back after University and a great asset in midfield. It got worse for Newbury as within a minute of the start of the second period Sewell got his second and moments later Luke Stone made it 5-0. New Dad Sam Burroughs delivered a pinpoint Missile for Matt Bilsland to tip in with 5 minutes to go. Man of the Match went to Max Charner Davis in goal for his second clean sheet in as many games. Marlow now sit 3 points clear at the top and go to Reading next week for an early start.

The Men's 2nd XI hosted local rivals Wycombe 1st XI at Pound Lane. The derby game got off to a nervy start with both sides unable to keep control of the ball. Marlow created some decent chances but it was Wycombe who opened the scoring. The home side failed to react after the ball came off a visiting player’s leg. But Wycombe remained professional, moving the ball into the D and slotting home after an initial save from Will Hunter. Marlow maintained their composure and found an equaliser. After a short corner strike was saved, Cadinouche hit a shot which was turned into the roof of the net by Adam Boyden. The second half saw both sides push for the winner. With Marlow down to ten men after a green card, Wycombe found an opportunity to take all three points. Marlow battled to the end and thought they had an equaliser from a barrage of short corners. But it was not to be. The 2nd XI recorded their first home defeat since March 2019.

Ladies results

The ladies first team welcomed top of the table Witney to Pound Lane and the visitors started strongly. Their well-drilled passes connected well giving the Marlow defence plenty to do. Keeper Dibs Haisman organised her team and the reds soaked up the pressure. There were great attacking plays too with Katie Windsor able to run from her own half right into the attacking circle but with no end result coming. Witney scored their first goal from a penalty corner after 26 minutes and then scored another two from open play in quick succession stunning Marlow to take the lead 3-0. Marlow steadied themselves and went into the half time break without conceding any more.
Marlow re-grouped at half time and came back fighting in the second half. There were some great attacking passages of play however Witney also continued to look dangerous on the break. It wasn't until the 61st minute that Marlow got onto the score sheet. Hannah Dring turned on a dime and launched the ball into the backboard. Witney only left it four minutes until they retaliated with another goal from a penalty corner. Some great attacking play from Keira Foster wasn't enough to score any more for the reds and the final whistle ended the game with the score 4-1 to Witney
