Reeling from our recent win, Marlow was ready for anything. Except for a ground change.

After the familiar feel of Marlow and the stands, having to move to GMS was a bit of a challenge. Nevertheless, no one was unfazed, and we were all ready for our possible second win of the season. Jack set some strict goals for the match, including not to concede within the first 10 minutes. Ready and raring to go, we set up with the sun to our backs.

Starting was a bit slow, with a close goal early on but we pushed forward, determined to gain a second win. However, with an accidental foot on the way into the D, a short was given. Could they score? Luckily for us, our defence was solid, with some especially good play from Sam Whitfield, and we quickly got the ball up the pitch. With some good passing around the midfield and defence, we finally found a break in their defence, resulting with a clinical finish from Charlie Healy, slapping it past the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner. A cheer erupted from our players, and we set up again, ready for their offensive.

After the first goal, many of us got a bit carried away, and our standard of play dropped a little as they hammered the defence. After an amazing save by Sam Bateson, our Goalie, we got it into their D again. Was it to be a goal? Sadly not, it resulted to an attacker slipping past the tight defence and winning a challenge with the keeper. We kept our heads up but very quickly one of their players lifted the ball past 3 of our defence and got a scrappy hit into the goal. This was a bit of a shock, but many of our players, especially the defence, kept the moral up. Soon it was half-time.

After an inspiring talk by Jack, we set up again, giving specific defenders roles of marking specific attackers, as our marking was pretty poor. We kept at it, trying to get it into the goal, but with no avail. There were some close encounters in our goal, but Sam Whitefield was like a brick wall, not letting anything past him. After a close short corner, Jordan Giles played a brilliant ball up the field to Ronan Vaughan. Passing it to Sammy Taylor, he ran and collected it near the goal, slotting it cleanly between the keepers legs. The score at 2 all, the next 10 minutes were intense.

With a brilliant save by our Keeper to start us off, we tried to get another goal to bring us into the lead. With some brilliant tries by Will House and Ronan, we almost scored on numerous occasions. However, we were unsuccessful with our efforts, but did not concede in that half. We finished the game, glad with our score, but not as glad as we would have been if we had won. There’s always next time!

Man of the match went to Sam Whitefield, for his amazing defending skills.
