U12-14 boys  - Season  2010-2011 

Welcome to those who are new to Marlow U14 Boys Hockey and welcome back to those from previous seasons.  

Training dates / timing
This season we will be training on the astro at Bisham Abbey on Wednesday evenings (6.00-7.15) from  8/9/10  to  8/12/10 and then from 5/1/2011 to 6/4/2011 inclusive. Please can all potential new members contact us before attending training.

Coaches 
John Shaw will be heading up the U12-U14 coaching team. John won a silver medal for England at the 1986 World Cup and played for Great Britain at the Barcelona ('92) and Atlanta ('96) Olympics. He will bring a wealth of hockey coaching experience with him and will be assisted by Simon Bond & Rob Gerrits .

Equipment
Shin pads and a suitable mouth guard are mandatory and we will not allow players to play in any games without them. We would also recommend that players bring suitable astro trainers (NOT football boots), and suitable sports clothing. The coaches will be on hand to advise any parents concerned about what is needed. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bottle of water with you.

Clothing / Kit

This year we are encouraging all our Junior players to purchase their own 'home' playing shirts which can be ordered and purchased via Hawkinsport in Bourne End (http://www.hawkinsport.co.uk/).  They are holding some stock at the moment so please pop in and see them as soon as you can.

Match day kit also includes Navy shorts, and red socks and again these can be purchased from Hawkinsport if needed.

Matches
Once again we will be taking part in Mercian sponsored U14 leagues and will be running an 'A' and 'Development' team (see fixtures below). We have also entered the England Hockey U14 competition (more details to follow).

 All  matches are played on Sundays - coaches will contact the players in advance to determine availability and to confirm start times and meeting points. 

Subscriptions & Match fees
This year the annual subscription will be £80.00 , and we would be grateful if your could pay the full amount by the 29/9/10. Cheques are to be made payable to 'Marlow Hockey Club'. This subscription makes you a member of Marlow Hockey club and covers the cost of your weekly training. We will also be charging a match fee of £5.00 per player for any Sunday matches you play in.

U16-U18 boys  - Season  2010-2011 

Welcome to those who are moving up to this age group and welcome back to those from previous seasons.  

Training dates / timing
This season we are running a specific U16-U18 academy on the astro at Bisham Abbey every Tuesday evenings (6.30-7.30) from 7/9/10 to 7/12/10 and then from 4/1/2011 to 5/4/2011 inclusive. This will be your main training opportunity.

We are also very keen for you to start playing Men's hockey on Saturdays - most of you have already confirmed an interest, but do let us know if you would like to get involved and we will put you in touch with the appropriate team Captain. It is assumed that those of you in the U17-U18 bracket will play senior hockey.

Under 11 Boys & Girls - 2010-2011 Season

 The U11 section of Marlow Hockey club was set up in 1994 and is committed to developing and promoting mini-hockey to girls and boys from the ages of 6-11 (school years 2-6). During training we focus on the following:

      1. Introducing players to the game of hockey (understanding the rules etc).

      2. Improving the players’ technique and skill levels from basic ball control to more advanced game play.

      3. Developing team play and fostering team spirit.

      4. Enhancing fitness levels by creating a safe environment for the players to 'run off steam' and enjoy themselves.

Our sessions fit within the training framework established for the junior section of the club, ensuring the effective development of junior hockey players through to our successful senior sides. A significant number of our players also progress into the Buckinghamshire Hockey Association junior programme.

Timing / Date / Location for training

The training takes place on the Astroturf pitch at Bisham Abbey. This is arguably the best synthetic water based hockey pitch in the country, and was laid in 2003 as part of a £10M redevelopment of this sports centre (Lottery funded by Sport England). The pitch and other facilities are regularly used by the Men and Women's England/GB hockey teams for training and international matches. We are very lucky to have it on our doorstep!

The training will begin at Bisham on 4 September 2010

   08:30 to 09:30 am for children in school years 2, 3 and 6 (to be confirmed)

   09:30 to 10:30 am for children in school years 4 and 5 (to be confirmed)

.... and will then be every Saturday until the end of March 2011 apart from the Christmas holiday and during the half term holidays. Confirmation of dates will be provided during the season.  

Please ensure that children are ready to commence the training session on the half hour so as to avoid delaying the activities for all the children.

Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre is located 1 mile outside Marlow - just cross the bridge leaving Marlow, drive through Bisham and the entrance is on the right after passing the Bull pub. When arriving from the A404 roundabout the entrance is on the left before you enter Bisham village.

Player Registration

Please find our 2010-2011 Registration Form attached. Please complete a form for each child wishing to participate and bring a hard copy to the first training session. We are always pleased to welcome new members to join the club. However, we have limited coaching resources and will have to restrict overall numbers to ensure we maintain our high standards. Please contact our Under-11 Co-ordinator, Bernard Tyler (brdge.nt@ ntlworld.com) to confirm whether we have spaces available or to join the waiting list.

Equipment

It is compulsory for all players to wear a suitable mouth guard and hockey shin pads - they will not be allowed to play in games without these basic safety items. Trainers/ astro-turf boots should be worn (not football/rugby boots) and please remember to bring your stick (we can lend you one if necessary).

Tournaments:

We are one of the nine clubs that run the Thames Valley Minis tournament series – this was fantastically successful last year. The dates for the tournaments are: 17 October 2010; 28 November 2010; 30 January 2011; 27 February 2011 and 27 March 2011. We will host four tournaments at Bisham and will need help from parents to ensure they run smoothly. All children are encouraged to take part in these events which enable their skills to be put to the test in match situations. Please note that there will be a £2.00 match fee for all players who play in these matches - they generally start at 9.30 am and run for approx 90 minutes.

Later in the season, we will enter the Buckinghamshire county tournament – which our U12 boys won last season and U10 girls were runners up – and one or two other club tournaments.

General information

      1. Please can you make sure that you bring some water with you to training - plastic bottles only (no cans or fizzy drinks).

      2. Please do not bring any food or sweets with you onto the astro - make sure you have had your breakfast before you arrive!

      3. Please wear appropriate clothing / shoes for playing hockey (no football boots) - we aim to keep you active, but you will need to wear tracksuit bottoms and warm hats when it is cold.

      4. The Astro pitch at Bisham is a water based type and this means that it will need to be watered at the beginning of each training session (in dry weather) - please do not go onto the pitch when you can see the water cannons working ! It may seem fun, but you will remain wet for the rest of the training period.

      5. In freezing conditions there will be a pitch inspection at 8am. Please check your email before setting off in these conditions.
